SunRisers Leeds produced one of the most explosive batting displays ever seen in The Hundred, smashing 241-2, the highest total in the tournament’s history, before cruising to a 37-run victory over London Spirit at Headingley on Tuesday night.
Asked to bat first, SunRisers immediately seized control through a breathtaking opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Ryan Rickelton. The pair added a tournament-record 148 runs for the first wicket from just 65 balls, leaving London Spirit’s bowlers with no answer on a flat Headingley surface.

Marsh was in devastating form, blasting 76 from 37 deliveries, while Rickelton played the anchor role brilliantly and remained unbeaten on 94, finishing just six runs short of a century after being denied the strike during the final eight balls of the innings.
The carnage continued when Harry Brook arrived at the crease. England’s white-ball captain hammered 55 from only 18 balls, including a six that brought up his half-century and pushed SunRisers beyond the previous record total of 226-4, set by Oval Invincibles against Welsh Fire in 2025.
Brook eventually fell while searching for another boundary, but Dan Lawrence added 10 runs from the final three deliveries to help SunRisers finish on an astonishing 241-2, rewriting the tournament record books.
Chasing an unprecedented target, London Spirit’s hopes were dealt an immediate blow when Jonny Bairstow was caught behind by Rickelton off Reece Topley with only the second ball of the innings.
Captain Liam Livingstone briefly counterattacked with 34 from 13 balls, but wickets continued to tumble. Lhuan-dre Pretorius, James Coles, and James Rew all departed in quick succession, leaving Spirit reeling at 56-5 after just 26 balls.

Although David Willey produced a magnificent unbeaten 83 from 46 deliveries, supported by Matthew Revis (38) and Jamie Overton (27 not out), the result was never in doubt. London Spirit finished on 204-6, a score that would have been enough to win many matches in The Hundred, but not against a SunRisers side in record-breaking form.
The victory keeps SunRisers’ qualification hopes alive and lifts them into fourth place in the table, level on points with MI London in third. Rickelton was named Match Hero after his unbeaten 94 and record partnership with Marsh.
“Both teams batted incredibly well,” Rickelton said after the match. “You realise the wicket is so good that you have to get as many as you can. You have to accept the ball is going to be flying, but try to stay one step ahead.”
He added that five wins is the benchmark for qualification, and protecting home form will be crucial during the final stages of the group campaign.
For London Spirit, the defeat leaves their season hanging by a thread. With only one win from five matches, their hopes of reaching the knockout stage are now all but over.
The Hundred continues on Wednesday with a double-header featuring Manchester Super Giants vs Welsh Fire at Emirates Old Trafford and Trent Rockets vs Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge, as the race for the playoffs intensifies.
