MEGHAN MARKLE MAY RETURN TO ACTING AS HER NEXT CHAPTER TAKES SHAPE

Meghan Markle may be preparing to reopen the acting career she deliberately left behind nearly a decade ago. After leaving Suits, marrying Prince Harry, entering royal life and eventually moving with her husband to the United States, Meghan has taken a very different path from the years when she was known as Rachel Zane. Now, she is reportedly considering a role in The Gentlemen, the Netflix series developed by Guy Ritchie. However, the project remains only a possibility at this stage, as the series has not yet been officially renewed for a third season and Meghan’s involvement has not been confirmed.

The reports about the project emerged alongside news that Meghan and Harry are preparing to bring their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to the UK for an extended period. A source close to the couple reportedly confirmed to ABC News that Meghan had been offered an acting role in a UK-based project, although neither she nor Harry has publicly confirmed the specific job or their plans to relocate. For now, the family is expected to maintain their home in Montecito, meaning a return to the UK would not necessarily mean giving up their life in California.
If The Gentlemen ultimately becomes Meghan’s next project, she would be entering a world of television very different from the legal drama that made her famous. Guy Ritchie’s series explores wealthy families, sprawling estates and criminal networks operating beneath Britain’s privileged society. The series stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito, while its second season is scheduled to premiere in September. Because a third season has not yet been officially approved, Meghan’s potential role remains uncertain.
Early reports suggest that discussions surrounding Meghan are still at a relatively preliminary stage. Deadline described the possibility of casting her in the third season as “hypothetical,” since the series would first need to receive a renewal. That makes the current situation different from an official casting announcement: Meghan may be under consideration, but no contract has been publicly confirmed, and there is still no information about what character she could potentially play.
Even so, Meghan’s return in front of the camera is no longer entirely hypothetical. In 2025, she appeared as herself in Close Personal Friends, a comedy featuring Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding. The appearance represented a relatively low-key step back toward acting after years away from scripted roles. If she ultimately joins The Gentlemen, Meghan would move from a brief appearance as herself to a fully scripted role in a television production.

Meghan’s path into acting began in Los Angeles, where she was born in 1981. Her father, Thomas Markle Sr., worked in television production and lighting, while her mother, Doria Ragland, worked as a makeup artist and social worker. After studying at Northwestern University, Meghan took on a series of smaller television and film roles before gradually establishing herself in the entertainment industry.
Before Suits, Meghan appeared in projects including Fringe, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses. Those roles gave her valuable experience but did not yet make her a major Hollywood name. The real breakthrough came in 2011, when she was cast as Rachel Zane in Suits. The character began as a paralegal determined to become a lawyer and developed considerably in both her professional and personal life during Meghan’s seven seasons on the series.
Rachel Zane ultimately became the role most closely associated with Meghan before her entry into the royal family. Suitsprovided her with a steady television career for seven seasons and introduced her to an international audience. When she left the series, Meghan was not walking away from a struggling career. She had established herself as a recognizable television actress, making her decision primarily a personal and lifestyle choice rather than an escape from professional uncertainty.
When Meghan and Harry announced their engagement in 2017, one of the immediate questions was what would happen to her acting career. In their first joint interview following the engagement, Meghan explained her decision to leave Suits: “I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter, right?” She also emphasized that she had spent seven years working on the series and felt proud of what she had accomplished there.
Meghan also said that she had “ticked this box” and felt it was time to move into a new role alongside Harry. “It’s time to work with [Harry] as a team,” she explained. At the time, leaving acting was presented as a natural transition rather than a sacrifice. Meghan wanted to devote more energy to causes that mattered to her while preparing for life as a member of the British royal family.

The couple married on May 19, 2018, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Their wedding attracted worldwide attention, with several of Meghan’s former Suits co-stars among the guests. Only a few years earlier, she had been a television actress working in Toronto; now she had become one of the most closely watched members of the British royal family.
Meghan and Harry spent roughly two years carrying out royal duties before announcing their decision to step back as senior working royals in early 2020. They moved to the United States and eventually settled in Montecito, California. Their son Archie was born in 2019, while their daughter Lilibet was born in 2021, marking another stage in the couple’s effort to build a private family life outside the royal institution.
Their departure from royal duties, widely dubbed “Megxit” by the media, became one of the most controversial chapters of Meghan’s public life. After moving to the United States, Meghan and Harry shifted their focus toward content production, charitable work and building independent projects. Archewell Productions entered into a partnership with Netflix, while Meghan also developed the Archetypes podcast with Spotify and the lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.
However, the years that followed their royal departure also showed that not every project produced by the couple met the expectations surrounding it. Harry & Meghan attracted enormous attention, while other projects were canceled or restructured. Their Spotify partnership ended in 2023, and their relationship with Netflix later evolved into a first-look arrangement. With Love, Meghan also did not continue in its original format, leading to continued discussion about the couple’s long-term position within the entertainment industry.
Against that background, a new acting role could give Meghan another way to redefine her professional identity. Rather than appearing primarily as a producer, member of the royal family or lifestyle personality, she would return to the profession that originally established her public profile. A role in The Gentlemen, if confirmed, would also allow Meghan to explore a different genre rather than simply attempting to recreate the image of Rachel Zane.
Perhaps even more significant is the potential connection between the project and Meghan and Harry’s reported return to the UK. After spending roughly six years living primarily in the United States, the couple are reportedly preparing a home in Britain and considering a longer stay there with their children, while continuing to maintain their California property. If Meghan were to take on an acting project based in the UK, it could give her a way to reconnect with the British entertainment industry under circumstances very different from those surrounding her departure from royal life.
However, such a return would not mean that Meghan and Harry are resuming royal duties. The couple continue to pursue independent projects, while Harry remains closely involved with charitable initiatives including the Invictus Games. A return to Britain would therefore represent a change in their living and professional arrangements rather than a restoration of their previous roles within the royal family.
For Meghan, taking on a new acting role would also carry a level of scrutiny she did not face when she was working on Suits. At that time, audiences largely judged her through her performance. Nearly a decade later, any appearance she makes on screen is likely to be viewed alongside her royal history, her marriage to Harry and the controversies that have surrounded their departure from Britain. A new project would therefore have to demonstrate that Meghan can once again be viewed primarily as an actress rather than simply as a famous figure entering a film set.

That is also what makes The Gentlemen potentially significant if Meghan ultimately joins the cast. Guy Ritchie’s series has a distinctly British atmosphere and belongs to a world far removed from the legal drama that established Meghan’s career. If cast, she would have the opportunity to return with a new character, a different genre and a production environment closer to the country where she is reportedly preparing to spend more time.
For now, however, it would be premature to describe this as an official comeback. Netflix has not confirmed a third season of The Gentlemen, Meghan has not announced a role, and discussions surrounding her potential casting remain uncertain. Rumors that she might return to Suits have also circulated previously, but those claims were rejected by her representatives in May 2026, when they clarified that Meghan was not involved in a Suits reunion movie.
If Meghan eventually steps onto a television set again, the story would create a striking contrast with 2017. Back then, she left Suits to begin what she described as “a new chapter” alongside Harry. Nearly a decade later, the woman who once closed the door on acting to enter royal life could be preparing to open it again, this time with the experience of an established actress, a mother of two and a public figure whose life and career have undergone extraordinary changes. The question now is whether The Gentlemen will ultimately become the place where Meghan continues the acting chapter she once believed she had left behind.
