Sydney Sweeney Faces Criticism for Sultry Lingerie Campaign After Emmy Snub

Sydney Sweeney is once again making headlines after sharing a new promotional video for her lingerie brand on Instagram. Despite being left off this year’s Emmy Awards nominations, the 28-year-old actress appeared unfazed as she confidently fronted what many have described as her boldest campaign to date.

In the video, posted to her Instagram account with more than 26 million followers, Sweeney models a white lace halter bodysuit featuring a dramatic cutout across the torso, paired with a brown fur coat. The clip opens with the actress standing on a balcony before casually slipping off the coat and striking a series of sultry poses to promote her lingerie collection. She captioned the post simply: “did you get your @syrn yet?”

The video quickly amassed millions of views and thousands of comments. While many fans praised her confidence and glamorous appearance, others criticized the provocative nature of the campaign. One follower commented, “I genuinely hope you find Jesus. No amount of fame or attention compares to the peace and purpose He gives.” Another wrote, “You’ve become the real life Cassieee girrrl,” while several others compared the post to content typically found on OnlyFans, with one user remarking, “It kinda looks like only fans page.”

The mixed reaction comes shortly after this year’s Emmy nominations were announced. Although Sydney Sweeney remained one of the standout performers in the third season of Euphoria, she failed to receive a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, her co-star Zendaya once again secured a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Sweeney’s absence from the nominations disappointed many fans, particularly as her character, Cassie Howard, became one of the most talked-about figures of the season.

Much of that attention stemmed from Cassie’s controversial storyline in the final season of Euphoria. In Season 3, the character turns to creating adult content on OnlyFans and appears in increasingly revealing scenes throughout the series. The storyline divided audiences, with many viewers arguing that Cassie’s arc pushed the character too far and describing it as a “humiliation ritual.”

Amid the backlash, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson publicly defended his creative decision. He explained that incorporating OnlyFans into the series was intended to reflect a growing social phenomenon rather than glorify it. Levinson stated, “If you look at OnlyFans, it is making as much money as Hollywood. I mean, essentially it’s on par.” He argued that the platform is no longer a niche business but “a massive enterprise.”

The filmmaker went on to explain that many young people today find themselves thinking, “I don’t want to go work in a nine to five at this place or that thing. Well, maybe I can just start taking photos of myself?” That mindset inspired him to explore the long-term consequences of turning oneself into a product through social media.

Levinson also acknowledged that the cast and crew faced significant criticism over Cassie’s storyline. He insisted that the series does not celebrate sex work but instead examines its emotional consequences. According to him, “We take a fairly critical look at it. It hollows out the individual. You’re constantly just depending on the likes and external validation.”

For her part, Sydney Sweeney has also defended her character in an interview with Vanity Fair. “I’m playing a character,” she emphasized. The actress explained that Cassie desperately craves validation and affection from others. “She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her. So I understand how Sam got her to where she was in season three.” Sweeney added that Cassie was motivated less by financial gain than by the feeling of finally being seen and appreciated. “I think she was more excited by the idea of these people loving her and knowing who she is and feeling like her world isn’t small.”

Born in Spokane, Washington, in 1997, Sydney Sweeney began acting at a young age and steadily built her career through a series of television roles before breaking into Hollywood. She first gained widespread recognition through performances in The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects, but it was Euphoria that established her as one of the industry’s brightest young stars. Her portrayal of Cassie Howard earned her two consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations in previous years. She also received critical acclaim for The White Lotus and went on to star in projects including Anyone But You and, more recently, The Housemaid. Beyond acting, Sweeney has expanded into producing through her own company, Fifty-Fifty Films.

Outside of Hollywood, the actress has increasingly embraced entrepreneurship, launching ventures in fashion and beauty alongside her acting career. Her new lingerie label marks another step in building her business portfolio. However, the provocative marketing campaign has also reignited debate over her public image, particularly as audiences continue to associate her with Cassie’s controversial storyline in Euphoria.

In her personal life, Sydney Sweeney was engaged to businessman Jonathan Davino after several years together. The couple frequently appeared in public before recent reports fueled speculation that they had ended their relationship, as Sweeney has largely focused on her rapidly growing career and has no longer been seen with her fiancé. Although she rarely comments on her private life, the actress has consistently maintained that she would rather the public focus on her work than on her relationships.

Whether facing an Emmy snub or criticism over her increasingly daring image, Sydney Sweeney shows little sign of slowing down. She continues to expand her business ventures, headline major film projects, and maintain an enormous presence on social media. As one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young stars, nearly every move she makes quickly becomes a topic of discussion, ensuring that both her professional achievements and public image remain firmly in the spotlight.
