Stephen Kalyn may be known on screen as Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis in Off Campus, but off camera, his real-life love story has been playing a significant role in shaping his journey. The actor is engaged to Victoria Lovatsis, a long-term partner who has been part of his life since well before his breakout role in the Prime Video adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s popular hockey romance series.

While his character Dean is caught in a complicated romance with Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla, Kalyn’s real-life relationship has remained far more steady and private. In interviews, the actor has openly acknowledged the importance of his fiancée in both his personal life and professional breakthrough.

“My fiancée has read all the books, so she actually kind of told me about them when she read them. I actually remember her reading, specifically, The Score one time,” Kalyn shared in a May 2026 interview, referring to the literary world that inspired the Off Campus series. “I remember I kept looking at her and she’d read the book, but she’d always be [glancing over at me]. I’m like, ‘What are you reading?’ She’s like, ‘Oh, nothing.’”

He continued by reflecting on her influence in his career path, describing her as a key source of encouragement during the audition process. “She’s been a huge player and motivating me to get there and get here right now. So, yeah, it’s really, really, really, really cool,” he added, emphasizing how her support helped him navigate the early stages of his involvement in the series.

Kalyn and Lovatsis have been together for many years, with their relationship dating back well before his rise in the entertainment industry. The couple made their Instagram debut in 2017, marking a milestone that confirmed what had already been a long-term commitment.

“Five years later and I still love you more than ever 😌,” Lovatsis wrote via Instagram in January 2017, sharing a throwback photo of the pair kissing. The post highlighted a relationship that had already stood the test of time, built on familiarity and shared history rather than sudden public attention.

As Kalyn’s career progressed, Lovatsis continued to remain a consistent presence behind the scenes. Her familiarity with the Off Campus book series also played an unexpected role in his casting journey. Kalyn has explained that it was Lovatsis who strongly encouraged him to audition for the role of Dean, believing he was a natural fit for the character.

“From the moment I got the audition, I just felt like I knew this person. I was so confident in what I wanted to bring to this part,” Kalyn told Elite Daily in another interview. “My fiancée read the books a long time ago, and her favorite character was Dean. So when they announced this show, she told me I had to audition. She said, ‘There’s no other option: You have to be Dean.’”

That encouragement ultimately paid off, with Kalyn landing the role that would bring him wider recognition as part of the ensemble cast of Off Campus. The series, adapted from Elle Kennedy’s bestselling novels, explores interconnected romantic storylines set within a university hockey environment, with Dean and Allie’s relationship forming one of the central arcs.

In the show, Dean’s romantic storyline with Allie Hayes develops across multiple episodes, beginning in the shared universe established in The Deal. While the adaptation takes creative liberties from the original books, it maintains the emotional core of the characters’ relationships, something co-star Mika Abdalla has also highlighted in interviews.

“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla told Us Weekly. “That’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”

She also explained how the interconnected nature of the Off Campus books made it logical to weave multiple character arcs into the first season. “Allie and Hannah’s story lines are so connected to one another that it just made a lot of sense to touch on that this season,” she said. “All the books, they build off of each other and they’re all connected. It didn’t really make sense to not include certain elements from the other books in this season.”

The first season concluded with Dean making a significant emotional decision as he asked Allie to pursue a monogamous relationship, setting the stage for future developments. The series has since been renewed for a second season, though it remains unclear which characters will take center stage next.

While the on-screen drama continues to evolve, Kalyn’s off-screen life appears grounded in stability and long-term commitment. His relationship with Victoria Lovatsis, built over nearly a decade of shared experiences, stands in contrast to the shifting romantic dynamics portrayed in Off Campus.

Lovatsis’s influence, as described by Kalyn, extends beyond emotional support into creative encouragement, particularly during pivotal moments in his career. Her familiarity with the source material and enthusiasm for the character of Dean helped shape the actor’s approach to the role, making their personal connection part of the larger story behind his professional success.

As Off Campus continues to grow in popularity on Prime Video, Kalyn’s performance has become one of the breakout elements of the series, drawing attention to both his on-screen chemistry and his off-screen grounding. Through it all, his engagement to Lovatsis remains a consistent anchor in his life, reflecting a relationship that has developed away from the spotlight but continues to influence his journey in meaningful ways.
