“I knew who MrBeast was and the amazing things he had done. But from a psychological perspective, I was curious whether people like that create an alter ego or if they’re genuinely down-to-earth. I wanted to meet him in person and find out.”

Her first impression of Jimmy was overwhelmingly positive. She recalled how approachable and humble he was, constantly asking about her interests and life. Only later did she realize those questions were actually part of a checklist MrBeast had created while looking for a potential girlfriend.

“He was incredibly friendly and down-to-earth. He asked me so many questions. Later I found out he was actually going through a checklist. He wanted someone who had hobbies, passions, goals… At the time, I simply thought we were having the best conversation I’d ever had.”

Their discussion quickly turned to topics such as her novel, neuroscience, and psychology—subjects that ultimately changed her perception of him.

“We talked about my book, neuroscience, and psychology. The fact that he could genuinely keep up with those conversations was incredibly attractive to me. You have to be genuinely curious and intellectually engaged to enjoy talking about those things. I actually thought I was boring him.”

After their first meeting, Thea received a direct message from MrBeast on Twitter as soon as she arrived home. The two continued talking regularly. Jimmy later returned to South Africa twice to see her before Thea eventually moved to the United States, where their relationship continued to flourish.
