Former QPR Co-Owner Leads Bid That Could Value Liverpool at More Than $6 Billion
Liverpool could soon welcome a new strategic investor after a consortium led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia opened discussions to acquire a minority stake in the Premier League giants. The investment group, backed by the influential Mittal family, is currently in negotiations with Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), in a move that could value the club at more than $6 billion (£4.5 billion).

FSG confirmed that talks are taking place, describing the proposal as a strategic minority investment rather than a takeover. The American ownership group, led by John Henry, has owned Liverpool since purchasing the club for £300 million in 2010, overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club's modern history, including Premier League and Champions League triumphs.
Who Is Amit Bhatia?
Bhatia recently ended his long association with QPR after transferring his ownership stake to Ruben Gnanalingam. Before entering football, he built a successful career in investment banking with Morgan Stanley and later expanded into real estate, construction, and private equity.
He is also closely linked to one of the world's wealthiest families through his marriage to Vanisha Mittal, daughter of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. Earlier this year, the Mittal family also strengthened its sporting portfolio by acquiring a majority stake in IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, highlighting its growing interest in global sports investments.
No Immediate Transfer Boost Expected

While Liverpool supporters may wonder whether fresh investment could lead to a spending spree in the transfer market, financial experts believe that is unlikely in the short term. A similar agreement saw FSG sell a minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023, with the funds primarily used to reduce debt and support infrastructure projects rather than player recruitment.
Analysts suggest any deal with Bhatia's consortium would focus on long-term commercial growth and expanding Liverpool's global business operations instead of changing the club's ownership structure or transfer strategy. As negotiations continue, the proposed investment represents another sign of Liverpool's increasing value as one of the world's premier sporting brands.
