Keith Urban Reportedly Growing Closer to Jennifer Lopez After Divorce, but One Major Obstacle Remains

Following his highly publicized divorce from Nicole Kidman after 19 years of marriage, Keith Urban is reportedly beginning to embrace a new chapter in his personal life. While the Oscar-winning actress has recently been linked to private equity investor Michael Reinstein after the pair were spotted looking cozy at a luxury hotel in Italy, the country music star is said to be growing increasingly close to Jennifer Lopez.

According to Heat World, Urban and Lopez have maintained a close friendship since working together as judges on American Idol. After both experienced the end of their high-profile marriages—Urban with Nicole Kidman and Lopez with Ben Affleck—they reportedly turned to one another for emotional support, staying in regular contact as they adjusted to life after divorce.

A mutual friend claimed: "Keith and Jennifer actually have a huge amount in common. They got along so well when they worked together and really developed a great friendship, so of course, when the news broke about Keith's divorce, Jen reached out to offer her support. They've been in touch ever since."

The source added that several of Urban's friends have encouraged him to take the next step and ask Lopez out. Despite their growing closeness, however, the relationship is said to remain firmly platonic.

Another insider shared: "At this point, it's still very much in the friend zone. But it's no secret Keith thinks Jennifer is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. The problem is he doesn't seem to have the guts to make the first move. Whenever his friends tell him he should ask her out, he comes up with excuses."

This is not the first time Urban and Lopez have sparked dating rumors. Earlier in 2026, reports claimed Lopez felt compelled to reach out after Urban and Kidman announced their divorce in late 2025. Having gone through the breakdown of her own marriage, Lopez was said to understand the emotional impact of such a life-changing experience and wanted to support someone facing a similar situation.

One source explained: "When her own marriage fell apart, the messages of support she received stayed with her, and she hasn't forgotten how much that compassion mattered. She's still processing her own pain, which has made her particularly attuned to what it feels like when someone else is facing the collapse of a relationship. But things are now definitely heating up between them, as they are acting as each other's comfort blanket."

Another insider claimed Urban deeply appreciated Lopez's support during one of the most challenging periods of his life. "At a time when many people have instinctively taken Nicole's side, Jennifer's willingness to offer support has meant a great deal to Keith. She believes he is fundamentally a good person and has been troubled by what she sees as unfair and damaging attacks on his character."

By February 2026, additional reports suggested that friends from both Urban's and Lopez's circles believed a serious romance could eventually develop. Some had even proposed the idea of the two artists recording a romantic duet as a way of bringing them even closer.

According to one source: "People in both their worlds are trying to play matchmaker for them. The idea of teaming up for some sort of romantic duet has been suggested as a way to jump-start things. If their would-be Cupids get their way and they do end up taking their friendship to the next level, it could be a really great thing for them on so many levels."

Despite the ongoing speculation, the reports remain based entirely on anonymous sources. Neither Keith Urban nor Jennifer Lopez has publicly confirmed being in a romantic relationship or indicated that their friendship has evolved beyond that.

Born in New Zealand in 1967 and raised in Australia, Keith Urban is widely regarded as one of the most successful country music artists of his generation. Across a career spanning more than three decades, he has won multiple Grammy Awards, earned numerous country music honors, and released chart-topping hits including Somebody Like You, Blue Ain't Your Color, You'll Think of Me, and The Fighter.

Beyond his recording career, Urban became a familiar face to television audiences through his role as a judge on American Idol, where he worked alongside Jennifer Lopez for several seasons. Their natural chemistry and mutual respect on the show have continued to fuel speculation whenever they are seen together.

Urban married Nicole Kidman in 2006, and the couple share two daughters. For nearly two decades, they were widely regarded as one of Hollywood's strongest celebrity marriages, regularly appearing together at red-carpet events and publicly expressing their admiration for one another.

Since reports of their separation emerged, however, both stars have remained the focus of intense media attention surrounding their post-divorce lives, including speculation about co-parenting, new relationships, and life after marriage. Much of that coverage has relied on unnamed sources and has not been confirmed by either Urban or Kidman.

Jennifer Lopez, meanwhile, remains one of the entertainment industry's most recognizable figures. Born in 1969, she has built a decades-long career spanning music, film, television, fashion, and business. Global hits such as On the Floor, Let's Get Loud, and Jenny from the Block have cemented her status as an international superstar.

Her personal life has attracted nearly as much public attention as her career. After several high-profile relationships, Lopez reunited with and married Ben Affleck before their marriage eventually came to an end. Reports suggesting she empathizes with Urban because they have both experienced painful divorces have only intensified speculation that their friendship could one day become something more.

For now, however, there is no official confirmation that Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez are romantically involved. The dating rumors continue to rely primarily on anonymous entertainment sources, leaving the true nature of their relationship open to speculation. Whether their long-standing friendship eventually develops into a romance remains to be seen.
