Keira Knightley and James Righton Hold Hands at Wimbledon, Putting Divorce Rumors to Rest

Keira Knightley and her husband, musician James Righton, drew attention as they arrived hand in hand at Wimbledon for the men’s singles semifinal. The couple made their way into the All England Club before taking their seats on Centre Court to watch British hopeful Arthur Fery face Alexander Zverev. Their affectionate appearance quickly became a talking point, coming after months of speculation that their marriage was in trouble.

Throughout the match, the 41-year-old actress appeared fully engaged, reacting enthusiastically to the action on court. She was seen laughing, cheering, and even jumping to her feet as Fery produced some of the match’s most exciting moments. Knightley sat alongside actor Richard E. Grant and was also spotted chatting with and taking a selfie alongside Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig.

For the occasion, Keira wore a white Ralph Lauren pussybow midi dress paired with strappy sandals, tortoiseshell sunglasses, and a white clutch. James, meanwhile, opted for a light grey suit, a pink shirt, and cream Gucci loafers. Their arrival hand in hand was widely interpreted as a clear sign that their relationship remains strong.

The public appearance comes several months after rumors of marital difficulties surfaced in February, when Knightley was noticed no longer using her husband’s surname in official company documents, while Righton was photographed on separate occasions without his wedding ring. The combination of those details fueled widespread speculation that the pair had quietly separated.

By April, however, those rumors had largely subsided after the couple were photographed once again wearing their wedding bands during a public outing. Representatives for Knightley later clarified that the change to her name on company records had nothing to do with her marriage. According to her spokesperson, the amendment was simply made to comply with updated identity verification regulations requiring company records to match the name on her official identification documents.

As a result, Keira’s records for her performing arts company, KCK Boo Ltd., now list her under her birth name, Keira Christine Knightley, rather than Keira Righton. The adjustment was described as an administrative requirement rather than a personal decision regarding her marriage.

Interestingly, Knightley has previously spoken about the possibility of taking her husband’s surname. During a 2014 interview, she admitted that while she had seriously considered making the change, she ultimately realized she was not ready.

“I went to do the passport thing ‘cos I was thinking, ‘Shall I do it? It will be helpful’. But you actually have to see it written down, and I found I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t go there. Yet.”

Keira Knightley and James Righton began dating in 2011 after being introduced by model Alexa Chung. They announced their engagement the following year before marrying in an intimate ceremony in the south of France in May 2013. Unlike many Hollywood couples, they have consistently kept their private life out of the spotlight, rarely making joint red-carpet appearances or sharing details about their family.

The couple share two daughters, Edie and Delilah. Knightley has often said that becoming a mother significantly reshaped both her priorities and her approach to acting. Since starting a family, she has deliberately chosen projects with shorter filming schedules or productions based in the United Kingdom, allowing her to spend more time with her children.

Born in London in 1985, Keira Knightley rose to prominence with Bend It Like Beckham before becoming an international star as Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. She went on to establish herself as one of Britain’s most acclaimed actresses through films including Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Anna Karenina, The Imitation Game, Official Secrets, and most recently Black Doves. Her performances have earned her two Academy Award nominations, as well as multiple BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.

Beyond her acting career, Knightley has become an outspoken advocate for gender equality in the entertainment industry. She has publicly discussed the pressures placed on women in Hollywood, criticized the male gaze in filmmaking, and explained that she is selective about filming intimate scenes unless they are handled under conditions she is comfortable with. She has also spoken candidly about media scrutiny, body image, and the importance of protecting celebrities’ private lives.

James Righton first found fame as a member of the indie rock band Klaxons, which won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2007. Following the band’s split, he continued working as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator with a range of artists. Although he largely stays out of the public eye, Righton has long been regarded as a steady and supportive presence in Knightley’s personal and professional life.

Their relaxed and affectionate appearance at Wimbledon ultimately offered a quiet but convincing response to months of speculation surrounding their marriage. Rather than addressing rumors publicly, Keira Knightley and James Righton once again allowed their actions to speak for themselves, reinforcing their long-standing preference for privacy over public explanations.
