Joe Amabile, the beloved reality television personality best known for The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, has shared a health update that has left fans deeply concerned. In a heartfelt message posted on social media, the reality star revealed that he has been diagnosed with an early-stage brain tumor after undergoing a comprehensive medical examination. Although he is preparing to undergo brain surgery in the coming weeks, Amabile remains optimistic and says he plans to keep fans informed throughout his recovery.

Opening a video posted to Instagram, Amabile began simply by saying, “So a little medical update.” He explained that everything started after he decided to undergo a full-body MRI as part of a routine health screening. During the scan, doctors discovered an abnormal lesion in his brain, prompting them to order a more detailed brain MRI for further evaluation.

Following additional testing, physicians found what Amabile described as a lesion roughly the size of a blueberry. “They ended up finding a lesion in my brain. So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor,” he shared. According to his doctors, the lesion appears to be a glioma, a type of tumor that develops from glial cells in the brain.

Amabile revealed that he is scheduled to undergo a craniotomy in approximately two weeks to remove the tumor, after which the tissue will be tested to determine its exact nature. “I now need to get brain surgery in two weeks to get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there. So it’s been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn’t expecting this,” he said.

Although his voice reflected the weight of the diagnosis, Amabile remained composed as he spoke about the unexpected turn in his life. “I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Oh, something like this will never happen to me’ — and here I am,” he admitted, acknowledging that he never imagined facing a diagnosis like this, especially since he had not experienced any serious symptoms beforehand.

One encouraging aspect of the situation is that doctors believe the tumor was caught at a very early stage. “They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated,” he told his followers, expressing hope that the surgery will successfully remove the entire tumor.

In the caption accompanying his post, Amabile reflected on the emotional roller coaster he has experienced over the past month. “The past month has been a lot of ups and downs to say the least,” he wrote. What began with multiple scans and MRIs ultimately resulted in a diagnosis of “what looks to be an early stage brain tumor.” He also acknowledged the seriousness of what lies ahead, adding, “In two weeks I’ll be undergoing a craniotomy to have it removed — yeah brain surgery.”

The procedure will take place at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, one of the leading cancer treatment institutions in the United States. Despite the difficult circumstances, Amabile said he considers himself fortunate to be surrounded by supportive family members and close friends. “I’m doing my best to stay positive during this time and am lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends,” he wrote.

The reality star also admitted that he struggled with the decision to make his diagnosis public. “I’ve gone back and forth about what I wanted to share on social media but ultimately this is now part of my life now, so might as well. Onto a new journey.” For Amabile, being open about his health has become a way of embracing a difficult new chapter rather than hiding from it.

Following his announcement, thousands of messages of encouragement poured in from fans and fellow reality television personalities. The official Bachelor Nation account commented, “Sending you and Serena Pitt all of our love.” Friends and former castmates from across the franchise also rallied around him with heartfelt words of support.

Former The Bachelorette contestant Thomas Jacobs brought some humor to the situation by referencing Amabile’s comparison of the tumor to a blueberry. “If there’s one thing the Grocer knows, it’s produce. This little blueberry doesn’t stand a chance!” The playful comment quickly resonated with fans and added a lighthearted moment amid the difficult news.

Wells Adams also offered his encouragement, writing, “Love you brother. You got this and we’ve got you!” Meanwhile, Dancing With the Stars professional Alan Bersten added, “Bro you know how much I love you. Sending you so much positivity and support. You got this.” The overwhelming response reflected the respect and affection Amabile has earned throughout his years in the entertainment industry.

Joe Amabile first rose to national attention in 2018 when he appeared on Season 14 of The Bachelorette. Although his time on the show was brief, viewers were immediately drawn to his down-to-earth personality and genuine charm. At the time, he co-owned Eric’s Food Center in Chicago, earning him the nickname “Grocery Store Joe,” a moniker that has remained closely associated with him ever since.

His popularity led to appearances on Seasons 5 and 7 of Bachelor in Paradise. It was during the latter season that he met Serena Pitt, beginning a relationship that quickly became one of the franchise’s most beloved love stories. Amabile proposed to Pitt during the season finale, and the couple later married with the support of Bachelor Nation.

Since then, Joe and Serena have frequently shared glimpses of their married life through social media and podcast appearances. Serena has remained one of the most important sources of support throughout Joe’s personal and professional journey, and many fans have expressed admiration for the way she has stood by his side following his diagnosis.

Outside the Bachelor franchise, Amabile also competed on Season 27 of Dancing With the Stars, where he ultimately finished tied for fifth place. While he did not win the competition, audiences appreciated his determination, authenticity, and willingness to step outside his comfort zone.

Unlike many reality television personalities whose careers have been overshadowed by controversy, Amabile has largely maintained a positive public image. Media coverage surrounding him has focused primarily on his relationship with Serena Pitt, his podcasting career, television appearances, and family life rather than personal scandals.

His decision to publicly share his diagnosis also reflects his openness in facing adversity. Rather than waiting until after treatment, Amabile chose to tell fans about his condition from the very beginning, allowing them to follow his journey in real time. Many supporters believe his story may also encourage others to prioritize routine medical checkups and recognize the importance of early detection.

For now, Joe Amabile is preparing for brain surgery in the coming weeks, with the pathology results expected to determine his next course of treatment. Until then, he says he intends to remain positive while continuing to update fans on his recovery. Supported by his wife Serena Pitt, his family, friends, and the broader Bachelor Nation community, Amabile is approaching this unexpected chapter of his life with hope, resilience, and determination.
