Jennifer Lopez Reveals What Helped Her Move On After Divorce

Jennifer Lopez has recently opened up about her perspective on heartbreak, explaining that she no longer views the end of a relationship as a failure. Speaking on SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma, the actress and singer said that breakups should instead be seen as the beginning of a better version of oneself.

The superstar, who has been married and divorced four times, stated, “Breakups are not a failure.”

According to Lopez, the end of a relationship should be viewed as “a launchpad into your next best self.” She shared this perspective following the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck, which concluded in April 2024 after 21 months together.

Jennifer Lopez said that the most painful chapters of her life have also been the periods in which she experienced the greatest emotional and personal growth.

“I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak.”

The singer emphasized that this lesson extends beyond romance and applies to every major disappointment in life, including career setbacks.

“And that’s not just in romantic relationships, that’s in work heartbreaks, all of it. It’s the only time you dig. You’re like, ‘What the f— happened? How do I do this? Why do I keep doing this? Or why didn’t that happen? What could I have done better?’ You change yourself.”

According to Lopez, those who constantly break other people’s hearts without ever experiencing emotional pain themselves are the ones who miss the opportunity to grow.

“Because if you go around your life and you’re like, you know, breaking hearts, let’s say, and you’re the one who’s like never feeling anything, you’re the loser. You’re never learning anything.”

The actress also surprised many by sharing another unconventional opinion about breakups, suggesting that people should actually celebrate them.

“We should have a party. People should say, ‘You broke up? Congratulations.’ Because one, you made a decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everybody.”

During the same conversation, Jennifer Lopez also addressed rumors linking her romantically to her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein after the two worked together on the upcoming film.

However, during an appearance on Today, Lopez firmly shut down the speculation with a brief response: “Not dating.”

When asked about what she looks for in a future partner, Jennifer Lopez said that appearance is far less important than personality.

“I don’t discriminate. I like skinny guys. I like a little chunk around the middle. I like beards. I like clean shape. It doesn’t matter. I like the person inside.”

Jennifer Lopez has long been recognized as one of the most accomplished and versatile entertainers in the American entertainment industry. She began her career as a dancer before successfully transitioning into acting and music, eventually becoming a global icon through hit songs such as If You Had My Love, Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Jenny From the Block, and On the Floor. Alongside her music career, she has starred in numerous successful films, including Selena, Maid in Manhattan, Hustlers, Marry Me, and most recently, Office Romance.

Beyond entertainment, Lopez has built an impressive business empire spanning fashion, beauty, fragrances, and film production. For years, she has consistently ranked among the world’s most influential entertainers and is widely regarded as one of the most successful Latina artists in history.

Jennifer Lopez’s personal life has also remained a constant source of public fascination. Before marrying Ben Affleck, she was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, while also having high-profile relationships with Sean “Diddy” Combs, Alex Rodriguez, and Ben Affleck during their original engagement in the early 2000s.

Her romance with Ben Affleck has often been described as one of Hollywood’s most iconic love stories. After ending their engagement in 2004, the couple reunited nearly two decades later, married in 2022, and received overwhelming support from fans around the world. However, their marriage lasted less than two years before they decided to separate.

In recent interviews, Jennifer Lopez has repeatedly emphasized that her priorities are now focused on herself, her family, and her career rather than rushing into another relationship. She believes that the experiences of her past have helped her better understand her own worth while teaching her how to face setbacks with greater maturity and resilience.

Jennifer Lopez’s latest reflections offer a glimpse into the optimistic outlook she has developed after decades in the spotlight. Rather than viewing heartbreak as the end of the road, she believes every breakup creates an opportunity for self-reflection, personal growth, and positive change. After years of navigating both extraordinary success and deeply personal challenges, Lopez says it is ultimately life’s most difficult moments that have shaped her into the person she is today.
