Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho could be on the move again just one year after arriving at Stamford Bridge, with Aston Villa opening negotiations over a deal for the Argentine international. While Villa's initial proposal centers on a loan, Chelsea are pushing for an agreement that includes a mandatory or achievable permanent transfer clause.
The Blues are understood to value the 22-year-old at £42.7 million (€50m) and are eager to resolve his future before the new Premier League season begins. Garnacho has yet to report for Chelsea's pre-season training, as both the club and the player's representatives continue working on a solution that satisfies all parties. New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso recently confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding the winger's future.

Villa Lead the Race but Face Competition
Aston Villa's interest comes shortly after the two clubs completed a record-breaking £117 million transfer of Morgan Rogers from Villa to Chelsea. The latest negotiations could strengthen the growing relationship between the clubs, although Villa must still convince Chelsea to soften their stance on demanding a permanent component in any agreement.
Serie A side Roma are also monitoring Garnacho's situation, while clubs from the Saudi Pro League remain interested in signing the Argentina international. However, Villa currently appear to be leading the race as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Can Garnacho Fit Emery's System?
Despite flashes of quality, Garnacho struggled to secure a regular starting place during his first season at Chelsea. He played 1,217 Premier League minutes across 25 appearances, contributing just five goal involvements in an inconsistent campaign.
Villa's current attacking setup relies heavily on versatile wide players capable of drifting into central areas. By contrast, Garnacho naturally prefers to stay wide on the left flank, using his pace to attack defenders in one-on-one situations. If the move goes ahead, Emery may need to adjust his tactical approach, or Garnacho will have to adapt his style to fit Villa's fluid attacking system.

Chelsea Continue Major Squad Overhaul
Chelsea's willingness to sell Garnacho reflects their ongoing squad restructuring under Xabi Alonso. The club has already generated around £130 million through player sales this summer and is expected to raise even more by offloading several first-team players.
Following the blockbuster signing of Morgan Rogers, Chelsea remain focused on balancing their books to comply with UEFA's financial regulations. Players including Nicolas Jackson, Trevoh Chalobah, Malo Gusto, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi could all depart before the transfer window closes.
For Aston Villa, Garnacho represents a high-upside signing with Premier League experience and enormous potential. The coming days are expected to determine whether the two clubs can bridge the gap between Villa's preferred loan structure and Chelsea's desire for a permanent sale.
