Taylor Swift has once again found herself at the center of the music industry after a new music publishing deal involving her longtime collaborators, Max Martin and Shellback, sparked concerns over the future control of several of the singer’s biggest hits.
According to industry experts, Max Martin, Shellback, and the Wolf Cousins songwriting collective have entered into a partnership with investment firm HarbourView Equity Partners. While the agreement does not affect Taylor Swift’s ownership of her master recordings, it could influence the licensing and exploitation of certain songs they co-wrote with her, depending on the specific rights transferred under the deal.

Entertainment attorney Bradfield Biggers explained that the transaction does not make HarbourView part of Taylor Swift’s business operation. However, the investment firm could have a say in certain licensing decisions involving the compositions included in the acquired catalog.
He noted that this becomes particularly significant in situations where approval is required from both the owner of the master recording and the owner of the underlying composition, such as film and television placements, advertising campaigns, brand partnerships, social media projects, and other commercial licensing opportunities.
Among the Taylor Swift songs reportedly connected to the deal are Style from her 2014 album 1989 and …Ready For It? from her 2017 album Reputation. However, sources say not every Taylor Swift song associated with Wolf Cousins is included in the acquisition.
Bradfield Biggers said: “By acquiring interests in songs that are closely tied to Taylor Swift’s catalog and cultural legacy, HarbourView is now economically connected to an important part of her ecosystem.”
As Taylor Swift’s global influence and commercial value continue to rise, the songs included in the acquisition are expected to become even more valuable assets in the years ahead.
According to Variety, the deal is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, although HarbourView has not disclosed the official financial terms. HarbourView CEO Sherrese Clarke praised Max Martin and Shellback as two of the most influential hitmakers in modern pop music. She said Wolf Cousins has built “an extraordinary creative ecosystem spanning generations and genres,” adding, “We are proud to partner with them and help steward the legacy of this remarkable catalog.”

Founded by Max Martin and Shellback in the 2010s, Wolf Cousins brings together renowned songwriters and producers including Ilya Salmanzadeh, Oscar Holter, Tove Lo, and Ludvig Söderberg. The collective’s catalog includes major hits recorded by artists such as Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, Tove Lo, and DNCE.
The latest development comes just over a year after Taylor Swift concluded her long-running battle to regain ownership of her master recordings. Her first six studio albums were originally controlled by Big Machine Records before the label was sold to Scooter Braun in 2019. At the time, Swift publicly criticized the transaction, saying she had not been given a fair opportunity to purchase her masters herself.
After Scooter Braun later sold the catalog to Shamrock Capital, the singer launched her Taylor’s Version re-recording project, allowing her to gradually reclaim control over the music that defined her career.
In May 2025, Taylor Swift announced that she had officially reacquired ownership of all of her master recordings. Reflecting on the milestone, she said: “I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

Beyond the ongoing discussions surrounding music ownership, Taylor Swift continues to be one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry. Most recently, she paid tribute to country music legend Alan Jackson during his farewell concert in Nashville. In a pre-recorded video message, Swift thanked the veteran singer for his decades of contributions to American music and described his song Drive as one of the tracks that inspired her the most.
Taylor Swift shared that Alan Jackson’s ability to tell deeply personal stories through music helped shape her own songwriting from an early age. She said: “I appreciate you so much for the ways that you have treated me and other artists and writers with just such support and encouragement over the years. I’m so excited for you doing this show, and just appreciate you so much. Love you!”

She began her career as a teenage country singer before transitioning into pop superstardom, breaking countless commercial records with albums including 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and The Tortured Poets Department. In addition to winning 14 Grammy Awards and numerous international honors, she also made history with The Eras Tour, which became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.

Her career has also been marked by several high-profile controversies, including her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, her highly publicized masters dispute with Scooter Braun, and her ongoing advocacy for artists’ rights within the music industry. Those experiences have ultimately established Swift as one of the strongest voices championing intellectual property rights and creative ownership for musicians worldwide.
In her personal life, Taylor Swift is currently in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce. Recent reports have fueled speculation that the couple may be planning a wedding in New York, although neither Swift nor Kelce has officially confirmed the rumors.
