Courtney Love has shared one of the most difficult chapters of her life, revealing that she came close to death several times during a prolonged health crisis. The singer said her illness began after moving to England in 2019, turning her life upside down for years before she was finally able to recover.

In a video posted on Instagram, the Hole frontwoman spoke in detail for the first time about what she described as the darkest period of her life. According to Love, the lengthy delay in completing her new album was not only due to work, but also because of her worsening health.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Courtney Love said: "My body just exploded." She explained that she spent long periods in and out of hospitals and reached a point where survival seemed uncertain.

Love revealed that her illness caused dramatic weight loss, severe hair loss, and left her weighing just around 100 pounds (45 kilograms). Recalling what doctors told her, she said: "They told me I was gonna die."

Despite the grim prognosis, Courtney Love said she never accepted that outcome. Even after months of treatment and recovery, she remained determined to survive. To this day, the singer has not publicly disclosed the specific diagnosis behind the broader health crisis that began in 2019.

Alongside the video, Courtney Love also revealed that much of her upcoming album was written during her battle with illness. She wrote: "When I made it, I believed this was my last record." She explained that whenever she was not hospitalized, all she did was write and record music.

The singer also recalled a frustrating experience during her medical treatment. According to Love, some healthcare professionals focused primarily on her history of substance addiction instead of identifying the true source of her pain. She claimed she was "stigmatized for being an addict for nine months" before eventually finding a pain-management specialist whom she credits with helping her recover.

This is not the first time Courtney Love has spoken publicly about serious health issues. Back in 2021, she revealed that she had nearly died from severe anemia after being hospitalized in 2020.

At the time, Love wrote on Instagram: "People, I've been sad, and extremely sick." She said she had become physically debilitated and endured what she described as "indescribable pain."

Courtney Love revealed that when she was hospitalized with severe anemia, she weighed only about 97 pounds (44 kilograms), while her hemoglobin levels had dropped to a dangerously low level. She said she "almost died in hospital from anemia." However, she has not confirmed whether that condition was directly connected to the broader health crisis she recently discussed.

After years of treatment, Courtney Love says she has now recovered. In her latest video, she told fans: "I'm healthy, which is amazing." She added, "Things are great right now."

Love explained that she intentionally kept her illness private throughout much of her recovery because she did not want her public identity to revolve around her health. "I wasn't public about being sick. I don't want to be public about being sick. You know, I'm fine now."

Her recovery also marks the beginning of a new chapter in her career. Courtney Love confirmed that her long-awaited solo album has finally been completed after years of delays. The project will be her first solo album since America's Sweetheart in 2004 and her first full-length studio release since Hole's Nobody's Daughter in 2010.

In addition to releasing new music, Love said she is eager to return to performing. She shared: "I want to tour more than anything. And I want to sing." Although she has not yet announced an official release date or tour schedule, she reassured fans with one simple promise: "I will be back."

Born in San Francisco in 1964, Courtney Love is widely regarded as one of the most influential women in alternative rock and grunge music. She founded the band Hole in the late 1980s and became known for her raw musical style, fearless stage presence, and rebellious public image. Albums such as Live Through This and Celebrity Skin remain landmarks in modern rock history.

Beyond music, Courtney Love has also built a successful acting career. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in The People vs. Larry Flynt, demonstrating that her talents extended well beyond the music industry. Although acting has never been her primary focus, she has been recognized as a versatile artist capable of balancing both careers.

Love's personal life has often attracted as much attention as her work. She married Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in 1992, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Following Cobain's death in 1994, Courtney became the subject of intense media scrutiny, facing years of rumors, controversy, and public pressure.

For decades, Courtney Love has also been candid about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. She has entered rehabilitation multiple times and has openly acknowledged that maintaining sobriety has been one of the greatest challenges of her life. Because of that history, Love believes she was unfairly judged when seeking medical treatment during her most serious health crisis.

Now 62 years old, Courtney Love says her priorities have changed. Rather than focusing on the controversies that once surrounded her name, she is concentrating on her health and the opportunity to create and perform music again. After years of battling illness, the rock icon says she is finally ready to return. For her fans, her latest revelations not only shed light on one of the darkest periods of her life but also signal the beginning of a long-awaited comeback for one of rock music's most enduring figures.
