Cheryl Reportedly Planning a Major Comeback With New Documentary Exploring Her Career and Personal Life

After spending years largely away from the spotlight, Cheryl is reportedly considering a major return through a feature-length documentary that will chronicle both her remarkable career and the defining moments of her personal life. According to sources close to the singer, she is in talks for a project that would trace her journey from her earliest days in the entertainment industry to the experiences that ultimately led her to embrace a more private life.

Now 43, Cheryl is said to be extremely selective about the projects she takes on. Following the death of Liam Payne—the father of her son Bear—two years ago, the singer has kept an even lower public profile, dedicating most of her time to family life and raising their son. As a result, reports that she is considering a new documentary have quickly captured the attention of fans.

According to insiders, the documentary would revisit Cheryl's entire career, beginning with Popstars: The Rivals, the reality competition that launched her into stardom as one of the five members of Girls Aloud. The show marked a life-changing moment for Cheryl, paving the way for more than two decades of success across music and television.

The film is also expected to offer a rare glimpse into Cheryl's love life. Viewers may hear her reflect on her high-profile marriage to former footballer Ashley Cole, her later marriage to businessman Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, and her relationship with former One Direction star Liam Payne, the father of her son.

A source told The Sun: "Cheryl is incredibly picky about what she chooses to do these days and spends a lot of time on motherhood, but she feels like she has a story to tell."

The insider added that no streaming platform has officially signed on to the project yet. However, if Cheryl decides to move forward, the documentary is expected to spark strong interest from major streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+, given her enduring popularity in the UK after more than 20 years in the public eye.

According to the report, Cheryl also wants to retain creative control over the documentary. The decision is believed to stem from her experience with Access All Areas, the 2012 documentary that followed her first solo arena tour.

Looking back on that project, Cheryl admitted she was never entirely satisfied with how it turned out. She explained that a friend had operated the camera so she would feel more comfortable rather than having a full production crew constantly around her.

Cheryl previously said: "A friend filmed me so that I would not feel like I had a camera crew in my way and at times forgot myself."

However, watching the finished documentary left her with a very different feeling. Cheryl later admitted: "I have since regretted this decision. The number of times I cringed watching it."

If the new documentary goes ahead, it could mark the first time Cheryl tells her own story entirely from her own perspective, rather than allowing the media or outside sources to shape the narrative surrounding her life and career.

In recent years, Cheryl has released very little new music. Her most recent official single arrived in 2019, and since then she has mainly appeared on television and at selected public events. In 2024, she returned to the stage for the Girls Aloud reunion tour, held in memory of her late bandmate Sarah Harding, who died of breast cancer in 2021. The tour was warmly received by fans and marked Cheryl's first major live performances after years of focusing on her private life.

Although she has not released new music, Cheryl's name has repeatedly made headlines throughout 2026 due to security breaches involving her online accounts. Fans were surprised when three albums—Taking Care, Inner Peace, and I Miss Who I Was—appeared under the "Releases" section on her official YouTube channel alongside her legitimate catalog.

It was later discovered that the releases were not genuine. The content reportedly appeared after Cheryl's account had been compromised by hackers.

Earlier in 2026, her Spotify artist page experienced a similar incident when a song titled Yesus Kau Baik Bagiku unexpectedly appeared as a new Cheryl release, leading many fans to believe she had returned to music.

Listeners quickly realized that the nearly six-minute track did not feature Cheryl's vocals at all. Instead, it was a religious song performed in Indonesian by another singer named Cheryl Tuasuun. The streaming platform subsequently removed the track from Cheryl's official artist page after the error was identified.

Born in Newcastle, England, in 1983, Cheryl first rose to fame after winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and becoming a member of Girls Aloud. The group went on to become one of the most successful girl bands in British pop history, achieving multiple chart-topping singles, millions of record sales, and numerous music awards.

After Girls Aloud went on hiatus, Cheryl established a successful solo career. Her 2009 debut solo single, Fight For This Love, topped the UK Singles Chart and became the biggest hit of her solo career. Songs including Promise This, Parachute, Call My Name, and Crazy Stupid Love further cemented her status as one of Britain's leading pop stars throughout the 2010s.

Beyond music, Cheryl also became a familiar television personality through her role as a judge on The X Factor UK. Her approachable personality, honest opinions, and star power helped make her one of the show's most influential and beloved judges across several seasons.

Cheryl's personal life has long attracted intense media attention. Her marriage to former England footballer Ashley Cole generated endless headlines, particularly following the infidelity scandals that ultimately led to their divorce. Her second marriage to French businessman Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini was comparatively brief before the couple also parted ways.

In 2016, Cheryl confirmed her relationship with Liam Payne, who was ten years younger than her. The couple welcomed their son, Bear, the following year before announcing their separation in 2018. Despite ending their romantic relationship, Cheryl and Liam remained committed co-parents, working together to raise their son. Following Liam's passing, Cheryl chose to withdraw even further from public life, focusing almost exclusively on her family. If the reported documentary comes to fruition, it is likely to be the first time she openly reflects on the triumphs, heartbreaks, and defining moments that have shaped her life and career over more than two decades in the spotlight.
