“There is no one coming to save us,” the singer said during a concert in Washington, D.C. “We have to do it ourselves.”
Bruce Springsteen delivered a fierce message aimed directly at President Donald Trump on Wednesday during his sold-out concert at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. He expressed sympathy for frustrated fans and shouted a rallying cry into the night sky.

“So many of our elected leaders have failed us that this American tragedy can only be stopped by the American people — by you,” Springsteen said. “There is no one coming to save us. We have to do it ourselves. So join us, and let’s fight for the America we love.”
The New Jersey native continued: “Do you hear me, Washington? Do you hear me, Washington?! Are you with us, Washington?! Are you with us, Washington?! Let them hear you all the way at the White House! Are you with us, Washington?! Let’s go!”
Springsteen and his E Street Band were performing the penultimate night of their “Land of Hope & Dreams” tour, a tour themed around American history and the country’s current political climate. The legendary frontman told the audience that the band stood with them in solidarity.
“If you’re feeling helpless, if you’re feeling hopeless, if you’re feeling betrayed, if you’re feeling frustrated, if you’re feeling angry, I understand that,” he said. “That’s why… we needed to come to Washington to feel your strength, your hope, and your faith.”
Springsteen also led the crowd in chanting “ICE out!” in protest of the president’s immigration agenda, targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who have been deployed in major cities across the United States.

The “Streets of Philadelphia” singer also voiced opposition to Trump’s war with Iran and the $1.8 billion fund following Trump’s $10 billion IRS lawsuit. Springsteen is one of the most prominent anti-Trump entertainers and has repeatedly criticized him publicly.
Trump previously responded to the 20-time Grammy winner on social media in April, urging his MAGA supporters to “boycott” the singer, whom he called “very boring” and a “dried-up prune,” while also claiming that Springsteen’s concerts “suck.”
Trump’s war with Iran has killed at least 13 U.S. service members and more than 3,000 Iranians. It also led Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz — a route through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes — driving up domestic gas prices and raising fears of a global energy crisis.

Although Springsteen’s tour is set to close Saturday in Philadelphia, the singer will also co-host a music festival in Washington, D.C., in October — just one month before the midterm elections, which even some conservative commentators say could become disastrous for the Republican Party because of Trump’s policies.
Last week, Springsteen helped former Late Show host Stephen Colbert close out his 11-year run, while also taking aim at both Trump and CBS owners Larry and David Ellison. He said that “we’ve got a president who can’t take a joke” — and that “these are small-minded people.”
