BELLA THORNE BREAKS HER SILENCE ON TRAUMA, ZENDAYA, HACKER ORDEAL AND A NEW CHAPTER

Bella Thorne has delivered one of her most candid interviews to date during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she reflected on growing up in the spotlight, years of emotional trauma, financial pressure as a child, and the personal struggles that pushed her to the brink. The actress also opened up about her relationship with Zendaya, the hacker who threatened to leak her private photos, her past suicidal thoughts, and her upcoming role as writer and director of Spring Breakers 2.

Looking back on her early years at Disney Channel with Shake It Up, Bella said she was constantly compared to former Disney stars including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato. At just 12 or 13 years old, she was repeatedly asked whether she would become "the next Lindsay Lohan." Bella recalled, "When I was 12, people kept asking if I was going to become the next bad girl or be like Lindsay Lohan. I remember thinking, 'What does that even mean?' It was such a strange thing to ask a child."

Bella also shared memories of meeting Zendaya during the Shake It Up auditions. She said she immediately liked her future co-star and felt they had incredible chemistry. At the same time, Bella realized how different their dance abilities were, with Zendaya already being an experienced dancer while she had very little training. Determined to keep up, Bella spent seven months taking three dance classes a day before filming officially began.

According to Bella, the hardest part of her Disney experience was not the work itself but the constant effort to pit her against Zendaya while they were still children. She explained, "People always want women competing for one spot. They encourage women to tear each other down while men are given countless opportunities. That's been happening forever."

She continued, "We were supposed to be best friends. Our characters were best friends. Things got really bad." Bella said the pressure came not only from the media but also from the working environment, family expectations, and people around them, making it difficult to avoid unhealthy competition.

A turning point came while filming the Good Luck Charlie crossover episode. Bella recalled, "We snuck away from the set. We knew we had three scenes before we were needed again, so we just wanted to go somewhere and talk. We hid on another soundstage until everyone started looking for us."

That conversation completely changed their relationship. Bella said, "We talked through everything, worked it all out, and it was beautiful. It was the first time I'd ever experienced two girls truly listening to each other. To this day, it's still one of the most genuine conversations I've ever had with another woman."

Bella Thorne also spent part of the interview discussing her difficult childhood. She revealed that her father died in a motorcycle accident when she was only nine years old, leaving no life insurance or financial security. Her mother was suddenly responsible for raising four children while driving them across Los Angeles to auditions. Bella said the family constantly lived with the pressure that booking the next job meant surviving financially.

The actress admitted those experiences taught her how to work hard but also left lasting emotional scars. "I always just wanted to be good at something. No matter how hard I tried, it never felt like it was enough."

Bella also praised the on-set teacher from Shake It Up, saying she completely transformed her education. Within two years, Bella went from struggling with basic math to performing well academically. However, her mother even filed a complaint with Disney because the workload left Bella with little time to memorize her scripts.

When she turned 18, Bella's relationship with her mother reached a breaking point. She said she moved out on her birthday because she could no longer handle the pressure. At the time, she had no identification, nowhere to go, and no real plan—but she knew she had to leave.

Bella also revealed that she battled severe depression and suicidal thoughts during that period of her life. "There was a time when I thought that if I hurt myself, maybe my mom would finally see how much pain I was in. Then I realized that if I kept thinking that way, I had to leave."

One of the interview's most emotional moments came when Bella revisited the 2019 hacking incident. She explained that everything began with mysterious text messages before the hacker started sending her private photos she had never shared publicly. Bella said it felt like someone had stolen control over her body all over again.

She explained, "It felt like I was being re-raped. My power had already been taken away from me once, and now someone was taking it away again." Bella believed that if the hacker released the photos, the career she had spent more than a decade building would be destroyed.

After speaking with her manager, Bella made the decision to publish the intimate photos herself before the hacker could do it. "If he was going to destroy my career, then I was going to do it on my own terms. I wanted my power back." The decision sparked widespread debate at the time but was also seen by many as an act of reclaiming control over her own body.

Bella admitted that for years after leaving Disney, she never truly found balance in her life. Only recently, after completing her film Color Your Hurt, did she begin focusing on her mental health, reducing her workload, and learning to be kinder to herself.

Looking toward the future, Bella confirmed that she is writing, directing, and starring in Spring Breakers 2. The project is being developed alongside members of the original production team. She teased, "This version will have a lot more female energy. We're telling the story from a completely different perspective."

The actress described the sequel as energetic, bold, and wildly entertaining. "If you want to go to the theater and have fun, this movie is absolutely going to deliver. From beginning to end, it's completely wild." While she declined to reveal additional casting details, Bella said the entire creative team is excited about the project.

Bella Thorne began her career as a child actress before becoming a Disney star through Shake It Up. After leaving the network, she deliberately chose a different path, pursuing acting, music, writing, directing, and business ventures. Over the years, she has frequently made headlines for her outspoken personality, provocative public image, and unconventional career choices, while consistently insisting she wants to live authentically rather than meet public expectations.

This interview ultimately offers more than a glimpse behind Bella Thorne's difficult childhood in the spotlight. It reveals her journey toward confronting trauma, reclaiming control over her own story, and continuing to build a career on her own terms. Through her reflections on Disney, Zendaya, family, mental health, and future projects, Bella makes it clear that she is entering a new chapter of her life with greater confidence, honesty, and self-awareness.
