After Football, Is Cristiano Ronaldo Preparing for His Biggest Role Yet?

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly preparing for a new chapter in his career by venturing into television, further expanding a business empire that has long extended beyond the football pitch. According to several international reports, the Portuguese superstar is set to produce a scripted television series titled Day 1s, the first project developed under UR•Marv Studios, the production company he co-founded with acclaimed filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, best known for the Kingsman franchise.

If the project moves forward as planned, Day 1s will mark Ronaldo’s first involvement in a scripted television production. In addition to serving as an executive producer, the Al Nassr forward is also expected to make an on-screen appearance in a guest role. Matthew Vaughn is reportedly attached as the director, while Billions star Damian Lewis will lead the cast.

The series follows Stanley Dalton, a fictional football agent navigating the high-stakes world of professional player transfers. Rather than focusing on action on the pitch, the story explores the hidden side of the football industry, where multi-million-euro deals are shaped behind closed doors through boardroom negotiations, confidential meetings, and complex commercial agreements.

The production is also expected to feature several high-profile personalities, including Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, British rapper Dave, and a number of special guest stars. Their involvement is expected to add authenticity to the series while offering viewers a closer look at the influential role football agents play behind the success of many of the world’s biggest players.

The concept for Day 1s was created by Darren Dein, Thierry Henry’s longtime agent. Dein and Henry both serve as executive producers on the project. Drawing inspiration from real-life experiences within the football agency business, the series combines fictional storylines with authentic industry insights to portray a world rarely seen by the public, where power, wealth, and reputation are closely intertwined.

Ronaldo’s move into the entertainment industry is far from a spontaneous decision. Last year, he and Matthew Vaughn officially launched UR•Marv Studios, revealing that they had already completed two action films before shifting their attention to television. The move reflects Ronaldo’s long-term strategy of building a successful post-football career while leveraging his global influence in the entertainment business.

Alongside his film ambitions, Ronaldo has continued expanding his investment portfolio. Earlier this year, British media reported that he acquired a 25 percent stake in Spanish club UD Almería through CR7 Sports Investments. The investment represents Ronaldo’s first ownership position in a professional football club and could pave the way for a future role in football management after retirement.

The 1985-born football icon has also expanded into the health and technology sectors. Reports suggest he invested $7.5 million to acquire a 10 percent stake in the wellness platform Pro2col. This addition further strengthens a business network that already includes the Pestana CR7 hotel chain, CR7 Fitness by Crunch gyms, CR7 fashion, fragrances, footwear, and an extensive real estate portfolio across Europe and the Middle East.

In reality, Cristiano Ronaldo has long been regarded as one of the most commercially successful athletes in the world. Beyond boasting one of the largest social media followings globally, he has signed endorsement deals with numerous international brands, transforming the CR7 name into a worldwide commercial powerhouse.

His decision to enter television also comes at a time when streaming platforms are increasingly embracing football-related storytelling. Productions such as Ted Lasso, Welcome to Wrexham, Sunderland ’Til I Die, and Amazon’s All or Nothing series have demonstrated the growing appeal of behind-the-scenes football content. Increasingly, audiences are drawn not only to what happens during the 90 minutes on the pitch, but also to the people, management decisions, transfer negotiations, and untold stories unfolding behind the scenes.

At 41, Ronaldo has shown little intention of ending his playing career. In June, he signed a two-year contract extension with Al Nassr, committing his future to the Saudi Arabian club until at least 2027. The extension suggests that while he is preparing for life after football, he remains determined to compete at the highest level.

His future with the Portuguese national team, however, remains uncertain. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo stated that he would wait until the tournament had concluded before making any decision regarding his international career, insisting he did not want to rush such an important choice. Following Portugal’s elimination, several British media outlets reported that he could retire from international football after the UEFA Nations League fixtures in September. Neither Ronaldo nor the Portuguese Football Federation has officially confirmed those reports.

Born in Madeira in 1985, Cristiano Ronaldo first emerged as one of Portugal’s brightest young talents at Sporting CP before joining Manchester United in 2003. Under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, he developed into one of the world’s finest footballers, winning his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 and laying the foundation for a remarkable career spanning more than two decades.

Ronaldo later completed a then-world-record transfer to Real Madrid. During nine extraordinary seasons with the Spanish giants, he became the club’s all-time leading scorer with more than 450 goals, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, multiple La Liga championships, and countless individual honors. His rivalry with Lionel Messi during this period became one of the defining sporting narratives of modern football.

After leaving Real Madrid, Ronaldo continued his success in Serie A with Juventus before returning to Manchester United in 2021. However, his second spell at Old Trafford proved far less successful than expected. Tensions with the club’s management and his widely publicized interview in late 2022 ultimately led to the termination of his contract, paving the way for his move to Al Nassr, where he became one of the first global superstars to join the Saudi Pro League.

On the international stage, Ronaldo remains one of the most decorated players in Portuguese football history. He played a pivotal role in leading Portugal to victory at UEFA Euro 2016 and the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019 while continuously setting new records for international appearances and goals. His ability to maintain elite performance well into his forties has made him one of the most exceptional longevity stories in professional sport.

Away from football, Ronaldo’s personal life has consistently attracted media attention. He has been in a relationship with Georgina Rodríguez since 2016 after the pair met in Madrid. Since then, Georgina has accompanied him through many of the biggest moments of his career and has become a prominent public figure in her own right. Together, they are raising their family while frequently sharing glimpses of their personal lives on social media, presenting the image of a close-knit family despite not having officially married.

Like many global celebrities, Ronaldo’s career has not been without controversy. Over the years, he has faced criticism over certain celebrations, outspoken comments, and several off-field allegations. However, most of those controversies have either been resolved or have not resulted in legal findings against him. Alongside his sporting achievements, Ronaldo has also remained active in charitable work, making donations to children’s organizations, hospitals, and humanitarian relief efforts around the world.

From a young boy growing up on the island of Madeira to becoming one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to demonstrate ambitions that reach far beyond football. Should Day 1s officially enter production, the series will represent another milestone in his expanding entertainment career while highlighting his long-term vision of building a lasting legacy beyond the final whistle.
