Bezzecchi Wins Indonesian Grand Prix as Martin Reclaims MotoGP Championship Lead
Marco Bezzecchi claimed victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix after overtaking Raul Fernandez late in the race, while Jorge Martin finished third to move back to the top of the 2026 MotoGP world championship standings.
Bezzecchi Makes His Move at Mandalika
Marco Bezzecchi delivered a decisive performance at the Indonesian Grand Prix, taking the lead from pole-sitter Raul Fernandez with nine laps remaining at the Mandalika International Circuit.
The Italian capitalised as Fernandez began to lose pace in the closing stages, moving ahead on lap 19 before gradually extending his advantage. Bezzecchi secured the victory, while Fernandez held on for second place to complete an all-Aprilia podium alongside Jorge Martin.
The result was particularly significant for Aprilia, with all three podium finishers riding for the Italian manufacturer. Bezzecchi and Martin compete for Aprilia's factory team, while Fernandez represents the Trackhouse squad.
Fernandez had looked comfortable early in the race after making a strong start from pole position. He and Bezzecchi negotiated the opening corner cleanly before pulling away from the chasing pack. However, Fernandez was eventually unable to resist Bezzecchi's challenge as the race progressed in the intense heat.

Fernandez Battles Through Injury
Fernandez's second-place finish was all the more impressive given the injury he sustained during Saturday's sprint race.
The Spaniard had collided with Bezzecchi in the sprint, with both riders crashing out. Fernandez fractured his index finger in the incident and was forced to adapt his braking technique for Sunday's main event, using his middle finger throughout the race.
Despite the setback, he managed to maintain his position near the front and finish ahead of Martin, helping Aprilia secure a dominant result in Indonesia.
For Bezzecchi, the victory provided a strong response after the disappointment of Saturday's crash. His performance also strengthened his position in the championship fight, although he remains some distance behind the leading pair with five rounds still to come.
Martin Moves Two Points Clear of Marquez
The biggest championship consequence came from Martin's third-place finish and Marc Marquez's sixth-place result.
Martin, the 2024 world champion, regained the lead in the standings with 355 points. Marquez, who had moved to the top for the first time this season after winning Saturday's sprint, dropped to second on 353 points.
Bezzecchi sits third with 309 points, leaving him 46 points behind Martin as the title battle enters its final phase.
Marquez's sixth-place finish meant he could not capitalise on his sprint-race success, while Martin's podium gave him a narrow advantage in a closely contested championship.

Five Grands Prix Remain
There are five grands prix remaining in the 2026 MotoGP season, leaving plenty of opportunities for the standings to change again.
The next round will be the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, scheduled in a fortnight. Martin will arrive there with a two-point advantage over Marquez, while Bezzecchi will be looking to build on his Indonesian victory and close the gap.
With the championship lead changing hands and just two points separating the top two riders, the next race could prove important in determining the direction of the title fight.
