RED-HANDED Folarin Balogun makes stance clear following his controversial World Cup red card for USA against Bosnia

FOLARIN BALOGUN took a swipe following his controversial red card in the USMNT’s 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Monaco sensation was handed a red card by Brazilian referee Raphael Claus in the 64th minute of their World Cup round of 32 game. Balogun, 24, seemingly jumped for the ball and landed with force on Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic’s ankle.

After the game, the forward posted a snap of himself with his hands on his hips and a puzzled expression to his 718,000 followers.

And on his Story, along with a photo of him celebrating on the Santa Clara pitch, the striker wrote: “Purple hearts! The war continues.”

At the time of the incident, a squeamish reaction followed as the opponent’s foot looked contorted as it slid slightly to his right. But the ace was visibly distressed at Claus’ call at the time and was comfort

ed by team-mates as he headed to the tunnel.

Balogun will MISS their Seattle meeting with Belgium in the last 16 on Monday.

The US are unable to appeal the decision and Balogun could face “extended suspension” if seen as warranted by Fifa’s disciplinary panel.

Malik Tillman had found Balogun’s foot in the 45th minute with a deflected pass, to slide it under the keeper for the opening goal of the match. Following the star’s dismissal, the rest of the squad rallied to double the lead with Tillman’s magic free kick in the 82nd minute.

Following the US’ first knockout win since 2002, they became the final co-host to confirm their place in the latter stage.

Canada will face Morocco on Saturday as they hope to progress to the quarter-finals, while Mexico will meet England on Sunday.
