Melanie Chisholm, known worldwide as Mel C or Sporty Spice of the legendary girl group Spice Girls, has officially married her longtime partner, Australian model Chris Dingwall, after more than two years together. At 52, the singer becomes the final Spice Girls member to get married, bringing to a close a long and often emotional journey that once led her to believe marriage would never be part of her life.

The intimate ceremony took place at Country House Cumbria in England’s picturesque Lake District. Staying true to the bride’s wishes, the wedding embraced a simple, elegant, and nature-inspired atmosphere. Mel C wore a sleek white backless wedding gown paired with a bouquet of wildflowers, perfectly complementing the countryside setting. The dress was specially designed by her longtime friend and Spice Girls bandmate Victoria Beckham as a personal gift for the occasion.
A source revealed, “It was Victoria’s gift to Mel. They’ve remained incredibly close over the years, and Victoria truly wanted to be there if circumstances had allowed.” Another source close to the Beckham family added, “It was a great honor for Victoria to design Mel’s wedding dress.”
Although Victoria was unable to attend because she was in the United States with her husband, David Beckham, for World Cup-related commitments planned long in advance, she reportedly sent her heartfelt congratulations. According to insiders, “Victoria was genuinely disappointed that she couldn’t make it, but she has been thinking of Mel and wishing her nothing but happiness on her special day.”

The other three Spice Girls—Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown (Mel B), and Geri Halliwell-Horner—were all present to celebrate their friend’s wedding. Mel C’s 17-year-old daughter, Scarlett, whom she shares with businessman Thomas Starr, served as a bridesmaid. The otherwise peaceful ceremony featured one unexpected moment when a herd of cows from a nearby farm wandered toward the venue just as the couple exchanged vows, briefly startling guests before everything quickly returned to normal.
Guests described the celebration as exactly what Mel C had always envisioned. One attendee shared, “Mel and Chris wanted a relaxed wedding. She never wanted anything extravagant—just something intimate yet elegant. Mel spent years saying she’d never get married, so a lavish celebration was never her style. This venue was absolutely perfect: secluded, peaceful, and incredibly beautiful. Everyone had an unforgettable time.”
Country House Cumbria is well known for hosting intimate weddings amid the scenic landscapes of Cumbria. The property is owned by stage actor Ben Forster, who starred alongside Mel C in the 2013 production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and property developer Paul Longman. Its privacy and tranquil surroundings were reportedly key reasons why the singer selected it for her wedding.

Mel C and Chris Dingwall’s relationship began in 2023 after the two connected through the exclusive celebrity dating app Raya. At the time, Mel was living in London while Chris was based in Sydney. The singer initially downloaded the app after encouragement from friends during a gathering, jokingly referring to their matchmaking attempts as “boy Bingo.” Despite the long-distance challenge, Mel decided to meet Chris while touring Australia, and their relationship quickly blossomed.
Earlier this year, when asked whether she could ever see herself getting married, Mel admitted that her perspective had changed. Speaking to The Times, she said, “It’s something I never imagined would be part of my story. But I’m truly happy with Chris. Maybe marriage will become part of my life after all.” Just a few months later, that possibility became reality.
Chris also became a major inspiration behind Mel C’s album Sweat. The singer explained, “Not long after I began working on the album, I met someone new and fell in love. The record ended up following a beautiful emotional journey—from heartbreak to the excitement of a new relationship.” Speaking with The Telegraph, she praised her husband, saying, “He’s so easygoing. He’s hilarious… We work out together. We have very similar personalities and lifestyles.”
For many years, Mel C was the only Spice Girls member who had never married. While Victoria Beckham, Mel B, and Emma Bunton built families, and Geri Halliwell experienced several high-profile relationships, Mel devoted much of her life to her career and often struggled with loneliness. During an appearance on Louis Theroux’s podcast, she reflected, “Being single has been a recurring theme throughout most of my adult life. It took me a very long time to experience a long-term relationship.”

She also dismissed the stereotype that pop stars automatically enjoy glamorous love lives. “It’s actually the opposite,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong—maybe the others had more success than I did. Our audiences were filled with young women and an amazing LGBTQ+ community. There really weren’t many opportunities. There were times when I was the only one in the group without a partner… I wanted to date too. I spent a very long time on my own.”
In her 2022 memoir, Mel C revealed for the first time that she had been diagnosed with clinical depression following the Spice Girls’ breakup in 2000. She explained that the condition stemmed not only from the pressures of fame but also from prolonged feelings of isolation. Looking back, she said, “It has been a long journey toward recovery, and honestly, I don’t think it ever truly ends. If it happened today, I’d probably take time away to heal. But back then, I still had to tour and promote my solo career.”
Before meeting Chris, Mel C experienced several high-profile romances. The most notable was her brief relationship with Robbie Williams in 1997. In her memoir, she admitted she was deeply hurt at the time, feeling that the singer had given her hope before suddenly walking away. Today, however, she remembers it fondly. “I saw Robbie recently. We were just kids back then. That was nearly thirty years ago.”

She also dated J Brown from the boy band 5ive for several months. Remarkably, the two have remained close friends. “He’s one of the very few exes I still keep in touch with,” she said. “He’s a wonderful person.”
Mel C’s career is inseparable from the legacy of Spice Girls, one of the most successful girl groups in music history. Formed in 1994, the group became a global phenomenon with hits including Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There, 2 Become 1, and Spice Up Your Life. Within the group, Mel earned the nickname Sporty Spice thanks to her athletic image and powerful vocals. Following the group’s hiatus, she built a successful solo career, released several critically acclaimed albums, and expanded into musical theatre and television.
Throughout her career, Mel C has been regarded as the most private member of Spice Girls. Unlike some of her bandmates, whose personal lives frequently attracted tabloid attention, she largely stayed away from major scandals. Instead, the public has come to know her through her openness about overcoming depression, navigating mental health challenges, and finding balance after the extraordinary success of one of the world’s biggest girl groups.
Now, after years of insisting she didn’t need marriage to feel fulfilled, Mel C has found the life partner she trusts completely. Her marriage to Chris Dingwall marks not only a new chapter in her personal life but also the conclusion of a long journey for someone who once felt isolated despite standing at the pinnacle of global fame. For Mel C, happiness may have arrived later than expected—but perhaps at exactly the moment she was finally ready to embrace it.
