BOSTON — Kylian Mbappe once again proved why he is the standout player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, overcoming an early penalty miss to lead France to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Morocco and book a place in the semi-finals.
The French captain endured a frustrating first half when his penalty was saved by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou after a lengthy delay before the kick. However, Mbappe responded in trademark fashion after the break, scoring the opening goal before setting up Ousmane Dembele to seal France's victory.
The result sends Didier Deschamps' side into the last four, where they will face either Spain or Belgium. France now move one step closer to reaching a third consecutive World Cup final.

Mbappe Responds Like a Champion
France dominated possession from the opening whistle and created several dangerous opportunities. Dayot Upamecano and Desire Doue both came close before Lucas Digne rattled the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort.
The biggest chance of the first half arrived in the 25th minute when Noussair Mazraoui fouled Mbappe inside the penalty area. Expectations were high as the France captain stepped up, but Bounou guessed correctly and comfortably saved the spot-kick, briefly giving Morocco hope.
Rather than allowing the miss to affect him, Mbappe continued to drive France forward.
His persistence paid off just after the hour mark when he calmly found the far corner to break the deadlock. Only six minutes later, the Paris-born superstar turned provider, delivering the decisive pass for Dembele, whose low finish slipped beyond Bounou to double France's advantage.
Mbappe was substituted late in the match after appearing to feel discomfort in his ankle, but later confirmed the issue was only minor.
"I have a small ankle injury, but I'm completely fine," Mbappe said after the match.
Morocco's Dream Ends
Morocco, who entered the quarter-finals hoping to produce another historic upset, struggled to threaten France throughout the evening.
Missing key attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari through injury, the Atlas Lions rarely tested the French defence and failed to create sustained pressure in the final third.
Despite the disappointment, head coach Mohamed Ouahbi praised his players for another memorable tournament.
"We wanted to win, but we faced an outstanding team," he said.
"We represent not only Morocco, but millions of people across Africa and the Arab world. We'll continue working because our future is bright."
France Eye Another World Cup Final

With eight goals and three assists already in the tournament, Mbappe has strengthened his position as the leading candidate for both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball.
France have looked increasingly dominant throughout the knockout rounds, and with Mbappe leading the attack, they remain one of the strongest favourites to lift the World Cup trophy.
After another commanding performance, the biggest question surrounding this tournament may no longer be whether France can reach the final—but whether anyone can stop Kylian Mbappe.
