Joe Root produced another masterclass under pressure, finishing unbeaten on 99 as England defeated India by four wickets at Sophia Gardens to level the three-match ODI series at 1-1.
After suffering defeat in the opening match at Edgbaston, England bounced back in Cardiff thanks to a disciplined bowling display before Root guided a nervy run chase with one of the finest innings of his ODI career.
The victory also ended England's six-match losing streak against India in one-day internationals and set up a winner-takes-all series decider at Lord's on Sunday.
England's bowlers trigger dramatic Indian collapse

India looked well placed after solid contributions from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, who scored 65 and 66 respectively.
Captain Shubman Gill added 31 while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 26 as India reached 178-3 and appeared on course for a total well above 280.
However, England's pace attack completely changed the match.
Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson both claimed three wickets as England ripped through India's middle and lower order. Archer removed Kohli before dismissing Axar Patel and Shivam Dube in quick succession, while Atkinson cleaned up the tail to complete a remarkable collapse.
India lost seven wickets for just 55 runs, eventually being bowled out for 234 with six overs remaining.
England stumble before Root takes control
England's chase got off to the worst possible start.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ben Duckett with the very first ball of the innings before Jacob Bethell also departed cheaply, leaving the hosts at 8-2.
Harry Brook showed early intent but fell for 16, while Sam Curran (25) and Jos Buttler (17) were unable to build significant partnerships.
At 125-5, England's hopes rested almost entirely on Root.
The experienced batter responded with a trademark display of patience, composure and immaculate shot selection. He shared a crucial 72-run partnership with Will Jacks (30) before guiding the chase alongside Gus Atkinson, who remained unbeaten on 23.
England reached their target with 35 balls to spare, although Root was left stranded on 99 not out after Atkinson struck the winning boundary.
Root puts team success above personal milestone
Despite missing out on what would have been his 62nd international century, Root insisted the victory mattered far more than personal records.
"To be there at the end and get the job done is probably the best feeling you can get in cricket."
Reflecting on finishing one run short of a century, he added:
"That's not what you play for. You play to win games, and this series is very much alive."
Root also praised England's bowling attack for dragging India back into reach.
"We did a brilliant job to peg India back. Sometimes you have to win ugly, and now we head to Lord's with everything to play for."
Series set for thrilling finale at Lord's

With the series now tied at 1-1, attention turns to the decisive third ODI at Lord's.
England will look to carry the momentum from Cardiff into the finale, while India will be determined to avoid another middle-order collapse after letting a commanding position slip away.
After two closely contested matches, the stage is perfectly set for a blockbuster showdown between two of cricket's biggest rivals.
