Different Life Plans And Busy Schedules Are Reportedly Pulling Hugh Jackman And Sutton Foster Apart

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s relationship is reportedly facing new strain as the couple struggles to agree on a possible move to Australia. According to multiple insiders, the actor hopes to spend more time in his home country, while his girlfriend is not ready to leave behind the life she has built in New York. Their

differing visions for the future, combined with demanding work schedules, are said to be placing significant pressure on the relationship.

Just last month, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster appeared affectionate together on the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala, drawing widespread media attention. However, despite their glamorous public appearances, sources claim the couple is now navigating a difficult period. In addition to ongoing online criticism since confirming their romance, Foster has also faced speculation that their relationship may have begun before Jackman’s marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness officially ended.

A source told Globe Magazine that relocating to Australia has become one of the biggest unresolved issues between them.

“Sutton’s idea that they could just keep being this cozy little Broadway couple and work on their theatre projects indefinitely is proving to be a fantasy. Hugh is always going to be a citizen of the world, and he’s always going to need regular check-ins back in Australia.”

The insider added that while Jackman genuinely loves New York, one of the main reasons he remains so attached to the city is because it allows him to stay close to his two children, Oscar and Ava, whom he shares with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness.

Meanwhile, Sutton Foster has commitments of her own that make relocating to Australia far from a simple decision. According to the source, the two-time Tony Award winner remains deeply committed to her Broadway career while also raising her daughter, Emily, following her divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin. Leaving New York would significantly impact both her professional life and her family responsibilities.

The source continued:

“Another reason it’s not a happy relationship at the moment has a lot to do with Hugh’s grand mid-career ambitions.”

According to the insider, while Foster is content to continue building her career on Broadway, Jackman is pursuing ambitions on a much larger global scale.

“The bottom line is, Hugh knows he needs a partner who can really keep up with him and his schedule, without friction, the way his ex, Deb, was able to do for so many years. Sutton still has a lot of commitments that keep her from doing that.”

Beyond disagreements over where to live, Jackman’s demanding workload is also said to be creating growing distance between the couple. After ending his nearly three-decade marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness, the actor quickly returned to an ambitious slate of film and stage projects. Foster reportedly supported his career at first, but as his schedule became increasingly packed, she is said to have begun feeling lonely.

Another source told Woman’s Day that those close to the couple worry the current situation is doing “more harm than good” to their relationship. Although they continue making an effort to attend important events together, their busy schedules leave them with little quality time.

Most recently, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster attended the premiere of The Death of Robin Hood together. However, after the screening, the actor reportedly attended the after-party alone, fueling further speculation about the state of their relationship.

One insider explained:

“Hugh’s a workaholic, and she’s starting to understand how lonely Deb must have felt at times.”

The source added:

“Sutton’s finding it hard to be by Hugh’s side at so many events, and he invites her to every single one.”

“It’s not that she’s shy, but she’s busy with her own career and still has a young daughter to raise. Sadly, the biggest casualty of all is Hugh and Sutton finding quality time together—they’re like passing ships sometimes.”

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster first met while starring together in the Broadway revival of The Music Man in 2022. At the time, both were still married to other people. After Foster finalized her divorce from Ted Griffin and Jackman confirmed his separation from Deborra-Lee Furness, the pair officially went public with their relationship in early 2025. While many fans welcomed the romance, it also attracted criticism amid speculation that their relationship may have begun before either marriage had officially ended.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness were long regarded as one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples. They married in 1996 after meeting on the set of Correlli and built a family together over nearly 30 years. The couple adopted two children, Oscar and Ava, and frequently emphasized that family always came first. Their separation, announced in 2023, shocked fans around the world. Following the split, Furness publicly admitted she had been deeply hurt by the end of the marriage, while Jackman chose to remain largely silent and focus on his work.

At 57, Hugh Jackman remains one of Hollywood’s most versatile performers. Best known for portraying Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, he has also earned acclaim for films including Les Misérables, The Greatest Showman, Prisoners, Real Steel, and many others. Beyond the big screen, Jackman has enjoyed an acclaimed Broadway career, celebrated for both his acting and musical talents. Throughout the years, he has balanced film, theatre, philanthropy, and family while maintaining a highly respected reputation within the entertainment industry.

As for Sutton Foster, she is widely regarded as one of America’s finest stage performers. Her two Tony Awards and acclaimed performances in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, Violet, and The Music Man have firmly established her as a Broadway star. In addition to acting, Foster is also a singer, educator, and author, while continuing to prioritize raising her daughter Emily following the end of her marriage to Ted Griffin.

For now, despite reports from multiple insiders suggesting that Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are experiencing a challenging period, neither has publicly confirmed nor denied the speculation. As demanding careers and differing long-term priorities continue to test their relationship, its future remains the subject of widespread public interest. Whether the couple can ultimately find common ground between career ambitions, family commitments, and long-term plans remains an open question.
